Poker games intuition watch

.

Just wondering something You know when you're playing poker and you have a "feeling" Your intuition is telling you something. Sometimes, you just "know" I can't speak for other people but I know for myself, I often have a strong intuition at times and it is seemingly always right.

What I don't understand is, why there seems to be this disconnect, from what your gut is telling you and what your head is telling you. At times they seem to be 2 completely different things. I mean there is a saying "gut feeling" How does your gut know things that your head doesn't seem to not literally obv Although I'd say you can literally feel a sensation in your tummy sometimes. If you don't trust your gut and overthink things - this could be in poker and in general life too- it often leads to making the wrong decision.

Anyway I just find this disconnect between gut intuition and mind thinking really weird Your "gut" or subconscious picks up on things that before your conscious mind can logically understand them.

There's a book "thinking fast and slow" that has an example related to this. I forgot exactly how it went though, so I won't butcher that here.

I think Mental Game of Poker might have touched on this a bit as well. Thinking fast and slow is an amazing read. Re topic I think everyone has a default strategy related to their personality that they will just never shake off. No matter how hard they try to change their game. And the same goes for gut feelings Ie hero call. Topic varies re live and online imo. Gut instincts imo are just our inner behaviours trying to overpower rational deductive thoughts.

I regularly play at a home game where it's more fun than business. The host guy in his early 50s usually gets rather toasty on Jack Daniels. As things get late into the game and most of the players are out, if he's still in he starts playing around joking, and showing guys in his corner his hole cards and the like. One night he's in one of these moods and I happen to be in his corner. He gets pocket 3s and immediately starts to say to me "Oh yeah, CBass, I think I'm getting that ol' feeling. He confirms with his "gut" and says "Yep there it is, I know it well!

Sure enough he flops a set. He erupts in a flurry of excitement this would usually be a HUGE tell, but he does this kind of thing when he whiffs the flop. So he gets action. He takes down the huge pot after a bunch of the guys call his supposed bluff.

Later in the game, he's still even more drunk and still up to his fun-loving antics. This time in position he lands something like pocket 8s or 9s. Before he is about to call the bet, he stops and says to me, "Oh wait Cbass, I better check to see if I have it. I thought it was an easy call but the flop comes AAx and sure enough one of the guys had an ace and ends up winning the pot.

Our guy had no chance with his pocket pair as they ran out the cards to see and he wouldn't have hit. While this anecdote may not be proof positive of psychic intuition, poker intuition, subconscious poker play or WHATEVER name we want to give to things are most likely just coincidence, it was really fun to see it in action. It would be a fun experiment in poker to try to quantify this phenomena. If there was a way to track probability frequencies in real time I think it might provide enough of an edge to have a really effect on your win rate.

Psychic abilities is a whole other subject, but I can see how people could wind up thinking they have that ability rather than realizing it's their intuition. Originally Posted by ganstaman. What you describe are the very much not real psychic abilities. I'm sure it was fun but also sure it was a coincidence. Originally Posted by ndahlhoff Originally Posted by TopPair2Pair. What I mainly got from reading the book is the importance of being aware of the type of thinking that is going on while I am making an important decision. The OP in that thread says he doesn't think people rely on their intuition enough. He has won over a million dollars from internet poker so there is probably something to it. I'm gonna have to check out these books. Originally Posted by RudyPlaysPoker.

According to Bowling, this more closely mirrors the decisions we make in everyday life, which are often based on incomplete information. At times they seem to be 2 completely different things. Notify me of new posts by email. By now I have taken about 5 minutes and people are fidgeting.

My instinct here is to fold. Using a pojer of artificial intelligence its creators describe as "intuition," DeepStack widely defeated 10 out of 11 professional players from the International Federation of Poker in a game of heads-up no-limit Texas Hold 'em.
